Honestly it's not worth even trying. Your cpu is so low end that it will horribly bottleneck any decent performing video card. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. I mean it is only a 1.4ghz dual core after all...

so even if I was to upgrade the processor It would still bottleneck? or would it really be much simpler to just go with a whole new comp?

Replace CPU, PSU, GPU

Will cost a lot less then whole new rig

A new power supply

Don't get a new cpu. No point of getting a lga 775 cpu, they are overpriced. Just save up and get an am3+ or an 1150 motherboard, ddr3 ram and a new cpu. What is the budget? Get the psu and gpu first.

Really? A new cpu? ddr4 is coming out while ddr3 is running at 3000mhz and you want him to get 800mhz ddr3? You want him to use an overpriced old cpu that costs way more than it should because it is no longer made. A socket that has been dead since 2009 and he should get a new cpu? Horrible idea. :D

I don't want to spend no more than $300 if I can just replace a couple things and it be good for playing games on atleast medium settings.

Thank you! one more quick question. you recommend replacing the GPU and PSU and then coming back and replacing the CPU later? Or would the CPU bottleneck so much to go without replacing it?

I would actaully go for the cpu and ram and motherboard first. It'll make a big difference, and then the gpu and psu would be an absolute HUGE difference.

Ok thank you so much! I thought I was about to have to buy a new computer or building a new rig.
