Hey guys. So as the title says, I'm gonna build my first gaming computer and I have a couple of questions for the components I chose.
Here is a list of what the computer will be using:
CPU: I7-3820 3,6ghz
GPU: MSI Radeon R9 270x gaming 2gb twin frozr oc or something
Motherboard: Asus p9x79 x79 s-2011
PSU: Corsair cs 650w gold modular
RAM: Corsair vengeance 16gb (4x4gb) DDR3
Storage: 1TB hdd of some kind, not sure which one but it'll do it's job ;)

For cooling:
The case (corsair graphite 230t) is going to have 3 fans (2 intake in the front and 1 in the back) and I was thinking of purchasing a Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo for the cpu.

Now for some questions:
Obviously the first question is, is this setup good for gaming? If not, then what do I need to swap out? My second question is, can I overclock the cpu? I've been looking around and I've gotten different answers every time. My third question is, is that cpu fan going to do its job properly or do I need to find a better one? Keep in mind if I can overclock the cpu then this fan has to be able to keep it at a safe temperature. And my last question is, are my components going to bottleneck eachother?

I know this is a long thread but since it's my first time picking out my own components I'd like to get it right instead of purchasing new stuff when I find out something isn't working.

Solution
If you're doing an extensive amount of editing, then it might be justified to keep the i7 and amount of RAM. Granted, an i7-4790k would likely do the job better, along with a Z97 board would allow you to OC as well.

If you're not heavy on gaming, then the 270x will be fine. But if you do forsee yourself using 64GB, I'd wait until the Haswell-E series CPUs come out, and DDR4 should be out by then as well.

Just saw that you have it laying around, in that case, the 3820 should be fine.

If this is primarily for gaming, your CPU and RAM are complete overkill.

To give you a rough idea, a good build would generally be an i5-4690k, Z97 board of your choosing, 2x4GB of RAM (1600 @ CL9 is generally acceptable), a 550W/650W PSU (SeaSonic, XFX, Corsair AX/HX/TX, Antec HCG, some EVGAs) for a single GPU setup, or 750W (ideal for 770 SLI) or 850W for higher end GPUs in SLI such as the 780/ti.

I also forgot to mention that I'll be doing some editing, so if this setup (unless you guys give me some other options) works for a while then I'm planning on upgrading the RAM because of the edits I'll be doing, the x79 supports 64gb but I doubt I'll go that high but you never know in the future, also I'm going for this cpu at the moment because I have it in my home waiting for the rest of the components to arrive, most likely going to replace that aswell once I feel it's needed :)

Alright, thanks alot! :D As I said earlier, I'm gonna use this cpu for a while because I don't have the money for a better one atm, but when I do I'm gonna go with your recommendation =)
