I was looking to upgrade my GPU, but I was concerned if I should get a new motherboard first. The card I was wanting is 3.0 and I only have 2.0.

Thats the card.
Ive read that with only one card 2.0 should work fine, not exactly on this specific card. I need some other opinions.

More about : motherboard support pcie

Yes, any pcie 3.0 card is backwards compatible with pcie 2.0.

I realize this, but I was wondering if it would be better to get a new motherboard that supports 3.0 first? Or just get it if I ever want to xfire.

You can Xfire with pcie 2.0 I believe. Since I've seen gigabyte advertise 4 way sli including one of the 2.0 pcie slots.

But you can't xfire two 3.0 cards on 2.0 slots, right? Sorry if this is basics, i'm new.

You are correct, you can certainly crosssfire two 3.0 cards in two 2.0 x16 slots. The bare minimum you'd want to run the two cards is x8/x8 at 2.0 speeds (you can technically run crossfire using slots running at x4 speed, but I personally wouldn't).
