So I was playing a game on my custom PC and I have windows 8. It crashes a lot usually 15 times a day which pisses me off already so it crashed and flickered and some **** happened and when I restarted, my desktop pin wasn't there. So I could acess my desktop. And I looked at some vids and I can't access my PC settings either. So I decided to **** it and try an reinstall windows 8 and I did so and 7% from finishing after like 1 1/2 hours, it said that it **** failed and it is going to feature back to the normal windows 8 before I started a reinstall. I'm beyond ducking pissed right now and I have no idea what the **** is going on. This is BS and I didn't do anything to cause this to happen. My PC is clean and I check it regularly.

What are your specs? Problems like that could be caused by failing hardware, like a hard drive.

Diagnostic software:

http://www.seagate.com/support/downloads/item/seatools-dos-master/ for HDD (burn to boot disk)
http://www.memtest.org/ for memory (also boot disk)

I had the same issue with an earlier version of Windows shortly after a new build. Was going crazy trying to figure out what the problem was. Was crashing more and more often. I figured everything was brand new, so had to be an install issue. Re-installed once, same thing. Tried to re-install a second time.... no go. Ended up being a bad Hard Drive right out of the box. +1 To SchixTech. Check that Hard Drive before moving on to other solutions.
