Need help about formatting a raid0 setup hdd after replacing its partner hdd for a ssd

Ok so I have a alienware mx17 I bought last december, r5? Idk what *r* it is.. I had 2 750gb hdd with 1 64gb msata cache, I replaced the 2nd hdd with a 120gb ssd and after some work installed the OS onto it. The hdd setup I believe was raid0, but after removing the 2nd hdd the hdd shows as 1388gb free and wont allow me to do a quick format so I had to do a full format on it. Did 52% overnight but in the last 3 hours has moved 2% meaning it will take 2more days. This cant be right, Sata operations in the bios is set to ATA, the only thing that allowed the boot disc to work. Any help would be really appreciated!

Solution
Thats because its trying to format 1388gb of space of which only ? 720 actually exists...
I would cancel the format, go into the bios and delete the 1388gb raid array. This should pass the 750 gb thru as a single drive, just like it did with the ssd.

There are a slew of drivers and firmware updates for the various products in that pc. http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/product-support/servicetag/97C6SY1/drivers

What have you installed already? I would do:
Bios: Install the one that just came out right off. Then proceed.
Chipset: Intel Management, then thermal framework.
Sata: Intel Rapid Storage
Video: Nvidia then Intel drivers.
Network: Qualcomm. The airplane mode one is usless IMO as they will make you shut it down.
Modem...

Sata operation options are Raid, ATA and AHCI, I have not tried other options sinxe successfully installing the OS onto the ssd, but before that ATA was the only option that allowed the boot disc to operate past the *missing media driver error*

I'm confisued. Which SSD are you trying to install windows to?
Lets call them this: Msata (for the 64gb msata), ssd (for the 120gb), and HDD for the 750gb.

How sure are you that you didnt replace the msata instead of the second hdd?
I ask because you said it was showing you 1388GB free and there's no way to get that without having dual 750's in it...

Whats the full exact product/service tag number from the label on the bottom of the laptop

I installed it onto the ssd, I know this because it was the 117gb option in the partition select screen when installing the OS. The bios still detects the msata meaning it is still inside.
Yeah it is showing the D drive as 1388bg free space. (give or take a few gb) the hdd I removed is now an external, it reformatted fine and in seconds and now serves as an external HDD with about 678gb free space. Again give or take a few gb. Express service code is 20034777097

Modem: both
Audio: Realtek

Install whichever utilities you feel you need, or none.
Load the firmware for the msata but you will need to look and see which one you have apparently.

depends on how it was created. If you see a message just after post about pressing crtl=I or crtl+h to enter the raid bios the press it. there will be an option there to delete. Alternately you can try simply setting the sata ports to ahci instead of raid (if its a chipset raid array to begin with)
