So i Bought a GTX 780 sc about a month ago but i didnt really notice any difference in performance so i looked around and came to the conclussion that my cpu was bottlenecking my gpu. The question now is what CPU should i buy ?

Current CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 955

Price range: 150-250 euros

Hi,

a 780 would be considered a enthusiast level GPU costing Eu400-500 or more. As such I think you should try to get the top of the line CPU to complement the card. Most of the time, I think the card is waiting for the CPU, esp in newer games eg BF4, ghosts etc. These games will use all threads that are available and they do heat up the CPU and DRAM, and PCH. Not all games or software will be CPU limited though, I have to admit. But if you have such a GPU I think you are at least gaming at the cutting edge, thus CPU is important.

Cheers.

That really isn't true. Games are more reliant on your GPU than your CPU. Not to say that one is more important than the other, but you definitely don't need a top of the line CPU just because you have a high-end GPU. In my opinion, an i5 could even work well with your card and it won't bottleneck any real-world performance in games at all (maybe by 1-2% at the most). One I'd recommend is the i7 4770k. It should do you well and will definitely not bottleneck you in any modern game.

[EDIT:] I'd like to add that the i5 4670k would be more cost effective while being bottleneck-free so it is a good choice.
