Trexx,
If doing a restore does not work, by all means download Malwarebytes and check for malicious software. I don't know what you're using, but be mindful of the holes than come with XP since in their "NON-wisdom" MSFT decided to stop supporting it.
If you go back to an earlier date after checking with Malware Bytes, and the Genie works, you're fine. But, if it does not work, confirm it is not a DNS or other issue, i.e., make certain all the settings from your ISP did not get knocked out.
Pull up a CMD line and simply type: ipconfig /all.
If all is well, you'll see something like this, perhaps without the IPv6:

If all is well (remember, you may or may not see anything related to IPv6), which is fine:
Unplug the Router and plug your modem directly to your PC or Laptop and see if it works and resets the adaptor. If not, call your ISP, they will likely need to do a refresh or at times, they may lock down a connection (too long to explain)
If it does work directly with the PC, then switch cables back and plug in the Router, do a recycle and see if it comes back.
If not, login to the Router and check for issues. The Genie does nothing you can't do on your own in the router and can mess it up at times.
Go to the Internet settings in the Router, I'll assume you're setup with a Dynamic IP and not using Dual NICS or anything of that sort.
Typically, you check the box that says you do not use a Login, but if you do, then be sure the correct one is in there. (That part is rare, mostly NO is checked)
Make sure under the Internet IP, Dynamic is checked and "get DNS servers automatically" is also checked.
Lastly, for the Router Mac Address, select the radio button which should provide a choice to: "Use this Mac Address."
You DO NOT want to select the MAC address of your Network Interface Card, you want to select the Router's MAC address and this can get fouled up at times, especially with Genie's. Good luck.
