Power supply calculator

I am currently building a gaming PC. I bought a 550W corsair power supply I'm wondering if it will be big enough.
I have: nvidia GeForce gtx 780
Intel i7 4790 3.6GHz
2 sticks ddr3 ram
3 140mm fans
1 7200 rpm sata hdd
1 blu ray drive
I am also thinking of adding a liquid CPU cooler in the future as well as a ssd.
Asus gave me a 700W recommendation but extreme said 514W.
I don't want my system to be under powered so if anyone with experience would know if this is enough that would be great.

  1. no your 550w is under sized on the 12v line by 100w. nvidia as a min recommends a 650w power supply for those gpus. for safty get a good 750-850w unit.

Hi - what model # is the Corsair 550 you have? There are a couple that have enough +12v amps to run a sys with a gtx780. GPU mfgs routinely overstate PSU wattage necessary to account for older designs that
do not have enough power on the +12v rail(s) or those POS PSU's that lie & exaggerate their power specs.

Altho a good quality 550w unit (with at least 42 +12v amps and Haswell ready) will run that system, I
would opt for a good quality 650w unit.
  3. If it's the RM550 it has the power to run your specs with the 780.
  4. CORSAIR RM Series RM550 550W ATX12V v2.31 and EPS 2.92 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Full Modular Active PFC Power Supply

    This is what I bought
  5. It should be all good according to what SR-71 said.
