Hi, I recently built a new PC and am currently looking for a new graphics card.. I'm somewhat limited by my psu which is a Antec 550w http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371016.

Can anyone experienced with graphics cards and power supplies suggest the best possible gpu I can safely use without having to replace my current psu?(something like gtx760/770/r9 280/280x)

My Specs are: 970A-UD3P Motherboard, 8GB GSkill Sniper 1600 RAM, FX-6300 CPU, HD 5870 GPU, Rosewill Galaxy-03 Case, and the PSU linked above. TYVM in advance!

The 280X only requires a 650W power supply if you get a high quality one such as one made from XFX or Seasonic.

Yes, I only gaming at 1080p resolution. I'm just curious if the quality of my power supply is sufficient enough to run a 280x for example without burning anything out..
I'm current not overclocking anything, I'm just paranoid to buy a card that might draw too much power or something. Thanks again.

Tikigod317 dnt go 280x as it required 750w power supply. so u probably would have to buy a new PSU. i would suggest to buy AMD/ATI Radeon R9 270X with Boost OC 4 GB DDR5 Graphics Card as it will fetch less amount of power just 500w :) and play games at 1080p :)

Yeah !! but here thing is that PSU is only 550w which is not suitable for 280x and if the PSU is 550w then it will not give exact watt as their efficiency is max out by 85% of actual wattage so for 280x i would suggest to have 750w TX series as mobo and its components also required extra watts to work efficiently so you would get better performance.

My dear friend both of the GPU will require atleast 650w GPU. i would suggest you to sell your 550w PSU and buy 650w good PSU then buy GPU because i have also done the same mistake and as a result i have to buy a 650 w PSU at the end.
