Hello Everyone,

I have been experiencing Black Screen of death while playing online games such as SWTOR, WOW and Elder Scrolls online for over a year now. The screen turns off and the Audio sound remains playing in the background, and the only way to resume the game is to perform a hard restart. So I thought of purchasing a XFX Redaon HD 6990 or any Redaon 6 series that will suit my system specifications. Unless there is a way to tackle the problem. Please excuse my newbish thread :D

Thank You very much for your answer. I have been told that most GTX's have the problem of Black Screen of Death. My younger brother runs his system on an AMD HD 6850 without problems. Although I took my PC to a lot of PC Workshops, non of them came up with a final solution to end the problem. And because of that I turn my head away from GTX's . Regarding the temperature, is there any particular software that can read it?

Thank You Very Much

Hmmm. Do you think my system can run r9 280x? :ange:

Your card is 6 or 7 years old. I'm sure AMD or Nvidia would be proud to claim that kind of life on a graphics card.

An r9 280x will work in your system, but your processor is also pretty old. It was high end and luckily came with ddr3 support so that's a bonus, so you should see the majority of the potential of an r9 280x.

Oh, forgot, to check the temps you will need some type of monitoring program. The brand of your card should have a program available to download, you can use other companies programs(MSI Afterburner works well), or you can use a program that isn't from the video card manufacturers like OpenHardwaremonitor, etc. Basically you just need something that will show you the temps that the card is getting to under load of games.

YaaaY... Thanks Again. Any recommendation to buy a new processor in the near future? :)

Honestly, I think you're probably still good. Your CPU ranks right in the area of Sandy bridge i5s in performance so there wouldn't be a lot to gain gaming-wise from an upgrade. I'd probably ride it out until you're ready to upgrade video cards again after this one.

Mr. bccorrupt, I really appreciate your help and tips so much. I am not too familiar with gaming hardware and accurate specifications. You really shed the light upon important stuff that I never knew and will never know. 1 more and hopefully the last question " Do you recommend a 1000 W power supply with four 150W 8-pin PCI Express power connectors(Any particular brand)-OR- 750ish(maybe 850)W power supply with two 150W 8-pin PCI Express power connectors(Any particular brand)?

Thank you very much and God Bless :hihi:

Thanks Again

I apologize for the late reply got little busy at work. The Seasonic 1050W PSU is so alluring with the extra fan switch. Is your recommendation based on Seasonic 1050W v Crosair 1000W in terms of price or quality. Crosair 1000 W is cheaper on Amazon than newegg website

If its in your budget, you might want to upgrade your cpu aswell incase if you want to play more demanding games without worrying about your cpu bottlenecking. I would defiantly get a 700 series or 800 series nvidia card.
