Hi everyone,

So I recently downloaded Steam for my Windows 7 computer and installed all the games I previously had stored in my library.

However, once I have the game up, about 10 minutes in, the game crashes and I get a black screen and a sound loop, causing me to have to reboot it by holding the power button. This happens for ALL my games, such as Left 4 Dead 2 and Team Fortress 2.

Steps I have taken to try and resolve this issue, but FAILED:
- Update my drivers (graphics)
- Verified the game caches
- Cleaned out the dust for my cpu cooler
- Verified if my computer is able to run the game
- Attempt to run as administrator

Info about my computer:
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E7500 @2.93Hz 2.93GHz
RAM: 3.00 GB
OS: 32-bit Windows 7 Home Premium
Graphics Driver: Nvidia GeForce 9400 GT

I would really appreciate if I could get some solutions to this, because I'd love to enjoy a few rounds of gaming with my friends.

Thank you in advance!

What power supply do you have in your PC, by this I mean make, model, company, and wattage?

I have two thoughts, one being that your power supply is not strong enough to run your components. This one is kind of a long shot, but it is a possibility, as while I am waiting for an RMA of my 650 W power supply ,I ran a 520W unit, and when trying to play games, I would often get strange performance and black screens/freezes/crashes that could only be resolved by hard reset, and this would not happen on my old higher wattage power supply.

My other thought is that your PC is not up to the task of running these games. One thing that really concerns me is your RAM, you really don't have all that much in your PC. At idle on my desktop with...

At idle on my desktop with almost nothing running in the background, my PC uses 1.2-1.6 GB of RAM, and while gaming it is anywhere from 2.5-6.3 GB roughly, depending on the game and what is happening. I fear that you are running out of RAM and this is causing the lock up of your PC. It could also be that old processor, it is fairly weak and outdated for modern games and it could not be able to handle the intense work put upon it and just lock up.

Hi there,

Thanks for replying. So, I downloaded a sensor to find out whats going on and I have taken a screenshot of what I thought would be relevant to your ideas.

That honestly doesn't really tell me anything that I need to know... I asked for information about your power supply, and there is nothing in here about that. I also would like to know what resolution you play your games at.

I've recently had the same problem with Skyrim and Just Cause 2 on Steam (the only, apart from l4d2 that I've played on Steam in the last month). Many solutions point to verifying the integrity of the game cache - right click on the game in your library-properties-local files tab-verify integrity of the game cache.

As expected, l4d2 had no issues but my copy of just cause 2 had to download an extra 5mb of missing files(uninstalled skyrim out of frustration before searching for the solution)...I haven't checked the game out to be sure if this fixed the issue though but it's worth a shot...
