I have a Netgear Wndr4300 router. I have been having issues with it so I tried to connect my computer straight from the modem without using the router. However, every computer that has been connected to the router, wireless or hardwired, will not recognize that the ethernet is plugged in unless it is through the router. I work from home over the computer and need a stable connection. Would the router have changed the configuration of my desktop adapter? Someone please help me this is frustrating and putting my livelihood on the line.

If you have a static IP it won't recognize other devices you connect. You have to change the Ethernet port settings to automatically acquire settings. Does the same for my cable modem i have to change the default address 192.168.100.1 My netgear default Ip 192.168.1.1 So if i put the cable modem in it won't connect either i change the default address or set it to automatically acquire settings. But some modems you have to shut it off to acquire new mac addresses when you hook it up to different ports it varies model to model.

I do have it set up to automatically acquire Ip. I'm trying to bypass the router altogether. So basically when I plug my ethernet directly from my computer straight into the modem, without the router, it does not "see" the Ethernet plugged in
