Hello,

I'm building a PC and I've got all the components ready. This is my first build so I'm making sure that each part is compatible and whatnot as I really don't want to waste any money.

Anyway, I realised that this motherboard contains a '3.0' port instead of the usual 2.0. Is this going to affect my PC? Will I need to make sure that a certain part of my PC is compatible with 3.0 or something?

Wow, a combination of the cheapest chipset intel make, and the most unreliable unscrupulous component maker in the game.
Nice find. .

It would be good if you could actually advise me instead of telling my how it's unreliable.

The motherboard has a USB 3.0 slot instead of the usual USB 2.0. I'm wondering if it makes a difference whether it's 2.0 or not. I'm wondering that because it's 3.0, do I need a certain type of case or any component so it's compatible with USB 3.0?

Hi RinchenT
usb 3.0 is backwards compaible with usb 2.0 , as is pcie 3.0 backwards compatible with pcie 2.0
this means that if you have a motherboard that has usb 2.0 headers and connect them to usb 3.0 it will still work but at usb2.0 speeds
For pcie 3.0 to pcie 2.0 you will not notice any difference

I assume you are talking about USB version number, it will not really effect anything in that build. USB gen 3 is fully backward compatible (so 2.0 devices will work).

Depending on your budget, i would ditch the CPU cooler and get a Z87 motherboard (instead of B85), also a better aftermarket 760 would be advisable.

The only thing usb 3.0 might change is the type of case you may want. The front USB 3.0 header (the pins surrounded by the blue plastic underneath the ATX power connecter on the linked motherboard) is incompatible with usb 2.0 headers from older cases. Although most motherboards still have enough USB 2.0 headers but you won't get USB 3.0 from them. There are adapters but at this point it would be cheaper to get a case with front USB 3.0 ports. Which as it seems you have already done.

The build I currently have is fine with me, I just want a PC which can handle good games at a steady FPS. Only worry I have now is if the compartments will be compatible with each other (PCpartpicker says it is) and that it fits the case.
