Hi friends,

I asked for laptop advice in this thread.

After much thinking I decided that I'll set a budget of $800 and go for Lenovo Thinkpad L540. I am choosing Thinkpad basically for its long battery life and durability. Price for base version of laptop is $729 for Intel Core i3-4000M Processor (3MB Cache, 2.40GHz) and 4GB RAM.

Now I'll buy a 4GB version model and buy an extra 4GB RAM and install it, its cheaper that way.

I need your advice to choose a processor from the following. I am also mentioning the extra price I have to pay for each processor. Please suggest one which is best value for money.

Intel Core i3-4000M Processor (3MB Cache, 2.40GHz) [base version]
Intel Core i5-4200M Processor (3MB Cache, up to 3.10GHz) [add $50.00]
Intel Core i5-4300M Processor (3MB Cache, up to 3.30GHz) -vPro [add $105.00]
Intel Core i5-4330M Processor (3MB Cache, up to 3.50GHz) [add $155.00]

My usage will be mostly Reading, Web surfing, Programming/Web Development. But I want a laptop which stays and performs for at least 5 years. For more details on my requirements refer this thread.

I'd definitely go with the Intel i5-4200M for $50 more; the performance difference from the i3 to i5 is somewhat significant. I wouldn't bother with the other i5's though, their price doesn't justify it's performance. The i5-4200M for $50 more is sweet.

All the best. :)

Thanks for advice, I'll surely consider this.

I partially agree with first part of your comment that most expensive would be best. But I politely disagree with second part to spend $3000 for 5 years. I am using 4 years old Dell Inspiron of worth $450 with crappy hinges and build quality. Apart from the cracked hinge laptop is performing really well. So nope we don't have to invest $3000 for a good durable laptop.
