I have never really been a fan of amd for the fact that nvidia works well with Intel. I'm trying to decide between the gtx 770 or 780 and the R9 290X. I was planning on getting the super clocked nvidia graphics cards from evga. It is my first pc build so I want some nice fps and performance on my gaming. Btw I'm getting the intel i7 4790k 4.0 stock ghz.

Edit: going to be gaming on 1080p

R9 290X will be the best performer out of all of them, personally i never really liked AMD either until i researched and found that theres nothing wrong with AMD, the drivers and support was only bad in the ATI days thats why people say AMD is bad, i now like both AMD and Nvidia, you only see Intel and Nvidia work well together because they are the most common combo but an R9 290 and a GTX 780 will be no different, the R9 290X will only ever lose to a 780 when that game is POORLY optimised for AMD and almost always those games are not worth playing, if your getting a 4790k and not overclocking you might as well get a 4790 as its cheaper, hope i helped, if you have anymore questions im around quite often so just ask, good luck :)

The best is the Sapphire 290X Vapor-X. that is an amazing card that runs so cold and is dead silent the fans dont make any sound only there air being pushed does and in a case even at %100 fan speed you probably wouldnt hear it, if you can spend $600 go with a Sapphire R9 290X Tri-X its the same cooler without the back plate and vapour chamber and a different colour scheme

I found the sapphire r9 290X TRI-X OC for $380, where'd you get $600 from? It seems $120 lower than the gtx 780 and runs better? Am I drunk or soemthing or is this one hell of a deal?

Ones an R9 290 and ones an R9 290X, probably where your deal came from, an R9 290 is a GTX 780 pretty much just cheaper and a R9 290X is a 780 Ti with 1 less frame and 1GB extra ram, overclocking means that the R9 290X can surpass the 780 Ti with extra ram and also the heat between the 2 is exactly the same if someone tries to tell you that the AMD card runs SO MUCH HOTTER thats bs and they dont know what they are saying
