Hi,

This is the first time I have ever posted on forum so I apologise if I am posting this in the wrong place.

I am looking for some advice regarding a gaming PC that I am about to build.

Basically, I have an old PC that I want to upgrade.

The PC that I'm uprgading has an i5 2500K which I know is a decent CPU and I'm hoping to get a couple more years out of it. I have been running it a stock speeds but want to start overclockin it a little.

The motherboard is an ASUS P8H61-V rev 3.0 (link here: http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/P8H61V/overview/ )

I want to keep the CPU, motherboard and HDD from the computer and add new RAM, GPU, CPU cooler and PSU.

The Graphics card that I want to buy is an XFX R9 280x

The Ram that I want to buy is kingston 8GB 1333MHz DDR3 HyperX Fury

The power supply that I want is Corsair CX750M 750W

and this CPU cooler is a Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro

I just want to know if these components will go well together and work with my current motherboard and CPU and if this will make decent gaming rig. I just sold my xbox one and am looking to get back into the world of PC gaming, but on a budget.

I was also wondering if I will be able to OC the CPU much on this motherboard (ASUS say it has OC capabilities but I'm not sure how good it will be for OCing).

Thanks in advance for any help!!

To dantethedemonkiller, I dont want to sound curt but why should he change the cpu? That few extra fps will cost him more than $200. I dont think it's worth it.
All the components you are choosing are ok but you could get a better PSU. On the motherboard you have, serious overclockin is not an option, you should get a z77 mobo for that.

Thanks for the reply dantethedemonkiller! Evanutally I will upgrade the CPU and mobo, but for now I am on a bit of a tight budget. Do you think the CPU and mobo I have at the min will be ok with the parts I mentioned for now?

Many thanks ksarex! Yeah i was thinking of sticking with my i5 2500k for a little longer as I dont see the cost of upgrading just now to be worth it, but I may upgrade to z77 mobo as you suggested in month or two when the pennies arnt so tight. I have been having a nightmare finding the right PSU, the specs on the r9 280x say minimum of 750w on the PSU and its been hard to find a decent one without spending a furtune. I'm not too sure how true the 750w min reuirement is on the GPU, was thinking maybe i could get away with a 650 if I dont do much overclocking.

So I was also looking at these PSU's

http://www.ebuyer.com/514904-cooler-master-b-series-700w-86-efficiency-12v-single-rail-psu-rs700-acabd3-u1

Do you think any of those are any good, or could you recommend a decent one?

Thanks mate

The reason amd says you need a 750W is to make sure that even a crappy 750W PSU will be sufficient for this GPU. What you should be looking at is the amperage on 12v rails. The 280x will need 35A MAX when overclocked (not by itself , the whole system). Based on this list http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/answers/id-1804779/power-supply-unit-tier-list.html

the http://pcpartpicker.com/part/seasonic-power-supply-m12ii620bronze is more reliable. You will surely be ok with the corsair but i never choose to save money on the PSU.
