So I shut down my computer after it was working fne then all the sudden my computer is super slow. It takes it 20 minutes to get past the starting windows screen. I tried to load up chrome on and it took 30 minutes for the webpage to load. I did start it in safemode, it still took forever to boot but it appeared to be somewhat better. This computer showed no signs of slowing down before this. It started being slow after a windows update. I tried to run checkdisk but when i turn on the computer it never actually runs it. I am running win 7 ultimate x64.
Edit checkdisk ran but computer is still extremely slow

1. Check Windows up-to-date
2. Remove/uninstall unwanted software
3. install and run Ccleaner
- Scan/Fix registry tab
- Tools > Startup > Remove unwanted items
4. Run adware/virus removal tools from bleepingcomputer Windows Security category (suggest Avast for antivirus scan)
5. Download/burn SeaTools for DOS to CD/USB and scan for hard drive errors (require boot to CD/USB device to run)
6. Download/burn memtest and run diag for RAM error (require boot to CD to run)
7. Download/burn Kaspersky Rescue Disk 10 to CD and scan for rootkit (require boot to CD)

hope it helps,
