I have been out of the country for the last few months. I came back home and tried to use my desktop but it is having some problems. When I do anything, the window will shortly say "not responding". I am able to browse the internet or run scans for a few minutes before everything is saying not responding. After awhile (10 minutes or so), the program will start responding. However, sometimes it leads to a blue screen. When turning off the computer, it will often take 10 minutes and also sometimes turns into a crashed blue screen. When I turn the computer on, it will turn on for a second, turn off, then turn back on and stay on.
I've done all the tests that I could think of to eliminate the problem. I've run chkDSK, memory diagnostic tests, checked the MBR, cleared the registry, ran programs like rkill, and checked for rootkits, viruses, and spyware.
None of the tests said anything was out of place. The only test that failed was the anti-virus test was froze part way through the test but the computer always seems to freeze after a certain amount of time. Since the memory and HDD seem fine, I'm wondering if it is a psu problem? A failing psu would explain why the computer has problems turning on. But would a bad psu cause freezing and crashes?
CPU: i7 2600k
GPU: Nvidia gtx 570
RAM: 8GB DDR3
HDD: 1TB
PSU: 750watts
OS: Windows 7 64 bit
I've had the computer for about 3 years. It has been about 5 months since I used the desktop as I was out of the country. Please let me know if there is anything information I should add or if you have any advice on what I should do to fix this problem! Thanks!
