I might sell my i7 4770k to get a few bucks back. This cpu is apparently AMAZING based on the benchmarks after overclocking. Can it work with my z87 asus gryphon?

Solution
Yeah, no point in selling your i7. So what if the Pentium has amazing benchmarks, it still has only 2 cores; If you OC your i7 you'll probably get a tiny bit worse performance/core than with the Pentium, but you'll have two times more cores and four times more threads. All games/applications that actually need a lot of processing power can use multiple cores, making the Pentium lose to the i7 in almost every aspect.

i dont know why i bought an i7.... i almost exclusively game and the benchmarks are similar to the i5 4570k. Im looking at the linus benchmarks and with gaming the i7 4790k is marginally better than the pentium

most of the games its a good 10%+ lower than the i3 - dosn't even compare to even the i5 (20-30%+ lower performance when overclocked to 4.5Ghz.).

In games that only use two cores, performance would be similar. Newer titles that use 3 or more threads, the Pentium would lose. You didn't make a mistake buying the i7. It will last longer before an upgrade is needed. Hell people still are using gen 1 i7's and satisfied with performance. Downgrading to a pentium would be a big mistake.
