I can't help but think this would be about as effective as trying to increase the redline on a '78 Ford Pinto. Noting the age of your various components, perhaps it would be more useful to ask first what it is you are trying to accomplish.

With a 2.8 GHz CPU, don't bother.Even if you were successful, ya wouldn't notice.

If ya gotta ask, don't do it.

If possible, upgrade the RAM - 4 Gigs.
THAT will give you a better performing pooter.

Actually I am not trying anything to accomplish, just felt my pc need to be upgrade, but one of my friend told me to overclock it and unlock it into dual core which would save my money and will move to advance level.
thanx

Yeah it is possible to upgrade both RAM and Processor, but my first option will be overclocking both. If there is no way then i will move to upgrade both

In short, overclocking that CPU won't give it much benefit, Just leave it.

what platform do you prefer for CPU's? AMD or intel? -keeping in mind that the FX 8320's are actually a better off suggestion over i5's for the future.

good, then I would suggest a FX 8320, and pair it with a 990FX motherboard, preferably one with 8+2 power phase design or higher.

The Sabertooth (8+2 great for OC) or Extreme9 (12+2, best for CPU OC) are best matches for that CPU.

Depending on your budget, a FX-8320 on a 990FX would do pretty well. If you are primarily interested in gaming, however, check the benchmarks. The FX does well in well-threaded games (e.g. some newer titles), but is beaten even by i3's in poorly-threaded titles. I'm not trying to create a raging AMD vs. Intel debate (I run both), but to point out that "one size fits all" really isn't true.

I do prefer Intel CPU's, but for what you get with the FX 8XXX series CPU's, you can't go wrong.
