I recently came back from out of state and when I turned on my computer, it prompted for the usual "password please" window screen. When I entered the password, it said it was incorrect. But ive been using the SAME password for a long time. I made sure, 100%, that it was not spelled wrong. I was able to bypass the password screen using this method:

Then, as per us', I tried to go onto google chrome to go on facebook. But chrome would not load. I had to go to the task manager to delete the process tree. When I clicked chrome again, the googles main page (you know, the search bar with the animated Google logo) loaded fine. But whenever I tried going to a different page like youtube or facebook, it would say "unable to load website" or "unable to connect to internet" and it shows that dinosaur thing. Its strange because its a PC, the internet cable is plugged in and all, and my laptop is working fine. Obviously theres somethng weird going on.

Furthermore, I tried loading a game to see if that would work. My game of choice was counter-strike: source and jesus christ was I suffering from severe FPS lag. My ping was literally fluctuating from 20~40, but the "lag" was like a stuttering lag.

I have NEVER encountered this problem before and it's really annoying me. Thanks for reading and hopefulling answering my problem.

P.S. I ran anti-malwarebytes like 4 times and nothing came up. I think its due to the hard drive considering it is very old, but I'm no tech genius.

That could be so many things... what type of pc? can you change your password now? does windows updates run? in network and sharing center, does the connection drop when internet does? or does the connection status show its connected the whole time?

@Tcinator

Its a personal PC i built myself, runs on windows 7 ultimate 64-bit. I removed the password completely, fearing i would have to do it again. Windows updates does run as i tried updating yesterday (still no change). And yes, the internet connection shows that it is connected the whole time and I have "internet access". Leave a comment if you need more information, thanks.

I have seen in rare cases, failing HDD's causing the internet issues, and all the time I see app hangs and crashes. Open resource monitor. Through running procmon and clicking on resource monitor link in the main window. Watch the disk to see if its thrashing at all (high active time with not much going on process wise). I would definitely let a chkdsk /f /r run. A sfc /scannow doesn't seem as helpful but you can give it a try. There are a host of different HDD dig tools out there, I would see if the mfg of the drive offers one. It could be something entirely different. I'll keep thinking
