I built this computer about a year and a half ago so it's relatively new. It worked perfectly up until a couple days ago when I came home and it randomly didn't power on when I hit the power button. I pressed a few more times and presto it turned on. It worked fine for three more days but now I can rarely get it to start. If it does start it works great, no random reboots or shutdowns. The mobo also has a green light that is always on which tells me the board is getting power. The board also has a power and reset button but those don't work either. Any suggestions?

Specs:
i7 3770
Intel desktop board DZ77GA-70k
Intel 330 SSD
Corsair AX750 PSU
16gb Corsair RAM
GTX 660ti

Try testing multiple wall outlets, and if possible, test the PSU in a different computer.

I bet it is the power button. Take the power button header off the motherboard and short the pins with a paperclip or screwdriver. If this works every time, it is the button itself being faulty.

He mentioned that the power/reset buttons on the motherboard don't work.

My suggestion has nothing to do with the power or reset buttons on the motherboard.

Well if the power button on the motherboard doesn't work, then the problem can't just be the power button on the case...

This is not true. The power button on the motherboard can be run through a completely difference circuit than the PWR header pins.

Which is exactly why if neither work, the one button can't be the problem.

He NEVER said the Header does not work. the only way to test this is to remove the power button from it and try it with a piece of metal. If the metal shorting the pins works, the header is fine and the button is the issue. I have had this happen on an NZXT case of mine.

I will try those suggestions when I get home. Also just thought I should mention that when the computer is on and running the power and reset buttons on the board do in fact work. They don't work when the computer is off, not sure if that helps

Ok so I tried shorting the pins and nothing happened. Any other ideas?

Sounds like a motherboard issue to me. RMA it if it is still under warranty.

I know this thread is old but I have an update. I spent the entire summer with this thing dead. Last Saturday at like midnight I was trying to sleep and my computer just powered on and nearly scared me to death. Its been working fine ever since. Any ideas?

Hi, this issue is happening to me also. I did every possible solutions to find the culprit but did not succeed. I ended up having it checked by a computer technician. As soon as he plugged it on, my desktop instantly powered on and boot up successfully. I was able to watch movies, play games, etc. when I brought it home, however, it didn't turned on again the next day. I left it for like 15 minutes then it turned on automatically. Any ideas why this happening to my desktop?

Sounds like it could be something with the outlet you are using. Have you tried using other outlets? Possibly a different cord?

Hi Frisbee_68. Thanks for your reply. I forgot to mention that I have an APC 625va UPS, it has a 325watts AVR in it. Do you think a 325watts avr can handle a 750watts PSU?

Here's my spec:

Mobo: Asrock z77 Extreme 4
CPU: i5 3570k
PSU: Seasonic M2II 750watts 80+ Bronze
RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3 1600
SSD: Crucial M4 128gb
HDD: Seagate 1tb
GPU: Asus GTX 750ti Strix OC 2gb
HSF: Cooler Master Hyper 212evo

Thanks!
