hello i have an asus m2r32-mvp motherboard heres the asus link
http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/M2R32MVP/

what i want to know is if its possible for me to crossfire 2 4870X2 videocards i know i can crossfire 2 4870's but what about 2 dual gpu cards?

Solution
The X2s should in theory add more performance, but quadfire scales horribly, even tri fire does. Personally a single card would be far superior.

Well the 580 chipset was the highest end chipset back then and it was aimed at people looking to crossfire any type of card that had a single gpu or a double gpu. So you can, but I would still contact asus for some clarification

Well my best guess would be that it maybe will, but the card came out a few months after that chipset. So if we look at the release dates on everything, well we have an enthusiast grade chipset released late 2007, which was aimed towards the higher end video cards, and amd probably planned ahead of time for the support of this card. Then we have the video card that was released in early 2008. So I would go ahead and try it but try and find some sellers on ebay that allow returns, like look for a 15 or 30 day return blah blah. So if this doesn't work you can get your money back

My wife plays that game all of the time, and she is more of a console gamer. She just uses our htpc which only has an fx 6300 and a r9 270x and I was watching her play it yesterday and it got like a solid 60 fps throughout the whole game. it peaked about 73 fps but it dropped down to about 43 when there was a lot going on

The r9 270x is under $200 and you can always carry the card over to another build. It will bottleneck by about 15% but it won't be to horrid of a bottleneck. If you want a card that won't bottleneck a 750 ti or a r7 265 might work best. The only problem that I have with some of the 750 ti cards is the uefi can cause the cards not to work correctly with the older motherboard bios
