My 290 is idling at about 46c right now. There are random gpu usage spikes that will cap at 50% for no reason. All of this is monitored by MSI afterburner and a secondary temp reading through hardware monitor.

Computer Specs.
I7 4770k
ASUS Maximus VII Hero Z97
G.skill Trident 2400 16gb 8x2
MSI R9 290
Corsair HX750 (its blue and goes against my build) :(
Samsung Evo 250gb SSD
Seagate 2TB 7200rpm HDD
Corsair h105
NZXT Phantom 820
Running in windows 8.1

Idle temp sounds ok. What is your temps when in a game? This is more important.

Idle at 46-50 c is a little high imo, but suz is right, gaming and other benchmarking apps matter most, im struggling on my r9 290 tri-X for some reason the fans aren't automatically adjusting to heat/rpm ratio

Also what is your ambient temperature?
Do you have any programs that run at Startup causing the gpu usage spike?

Nothing at start up just got this build completed. Benchmarks hit 58c in the Tomb Raider and 69c in MSI kombuster. Those are good just worried about the idle lol. Ambient is 22c
