Upgraded my computer, can't properly boot. Heating problem.

So, as the title describes, I cannot boot up my system properly. This happened after I decided to upgrade my CPU and MOBO.

Here is my setup:

CPU: Intel 4930k 6-Core 3.4Ghz

Cooling: Corsair H60 Watercooling



The situation:

So, I have installed everything correctly, and when I boot up my computer - It boots correctly for about 1 minute. I can sometimes get access my BIOS during this time. I say sometimes, because the computer shuts down either just before the BIOS loads, or a bit after.

Oh, and I can not "skip" loading the BIOS. A screen prompts me to enter BIOS, saying I have to go through the setup. The very same screen also mentions an dangerously high CPU Temperature. More about that further down.

The info I've collected regarding the issue thus far:

As I mentioned, I have an ASUS Rampage Gene MOBO, so I do indeed get a debug code before the computer shuts down.

The debug code I get is number 34. This indicates a "CPU post-memory initilization"

As I mentioned further up, the MOBO reports that my CPU temperature is really high. It reports a steady 87' Celsius, which I am inclined to believe is not normal for the 4930k on Idle. Whether this report is believable or not, I do not know.

It sounds like either your H60 isn't installed correctly or it isn't working properly (broken pump/fan). 87C is a very high temp for any CPU even at full load. Temps should be from ~30-50C at idle depending on weather (Room temperature), the cooler you are using, and the CPU being cooled. Full load should usually be from ~50-70C again depending on the CPU, cooler, and weather.

I'd check to see if the fan is running on your H60 also make sure the cables to your pump are connected correctly. Usually with the H series I worked with the corsair logo should light up when the computer is on indicating it is running.

I will certainly check out the BIOS. I will update you with the results later.

The CPU fan does indeed spin, and yes I do have a Corsair H60 attached to the CPU.

Man, it would be a real bummer if the cooler ain't working anymore. Anyway, I will check the installation of the H60 now. The fan on the cooler is running by the way. And the cooler worked just fine earlier today on my Intel 2600k.

My BIOS version is 4601, so my CPU is currently supported.

Alright, I've solved the problem.

The standoff screws I used for the old LGA1155 MOBO was not compatible with the new MOBO, so the H60 wasn't in contact with the CPU. I found some of my LGA2011 standoffs, and problem solved!

Yeah just for future reference, when I couldn't find my LGA 2011 screws, I went to the hardware store and got small screws and nuts. I used that til I bought a H100i. Those are very important because there's a height difference as you may have noticed.
