Best 240-256gb SSD for around $120?

I'm looking to get a new SSD for my computer. Not sure which one to get, as this is my first SSD ever. (Can't wait for the incredible speed boost!) This Intel looks really good for the price, and from my experience Intel has been a good brand in the technology world. I've also looked at the Seagate and the Pny. I read that Kingston and Pny are having a bit of problems in this post. The intel I think is the best bet, does anyone else have one that is better, about 120-130 my budget.

May I ask why you recommend that one? I've used crucial multiple times for ram, I actually plan to install crucial ram in this laptop later down the road, but anyways, that ones write speeds from what i'm reading are slower with the write speeds at 300MBps. I would think sacrificing 50MBps read spead is worth the 200MBps write speeds. I can't find the 4KB read and write speed for the Intel though. Also, some reviews are saying the intel I was looking at is a 9.5mm rather than a 7mm, is that true, as I don't believe the 9.5mm will fit in my laptop. My laptop is a lenovo S415 touch with the a6 processor. And the Intel's about $10 cheaper after the rebate.

oh it's for a laptop, well i never had issues with dimensions so i would not know (<-desktop guy)
well, it is true that crucial m500 is not the fastest of the bunch (i had my eye on samsung evo before), but it was the cheapest when i bought it. i was planning on buying 120gb only (due to budget) but m500 was only a bit higher but with 240gb so i went with it.

as i have said, it is barely noticeable performance wise, unless you bench maybe. so i am ok with some lower numbers

I normally recommend Samsung. Samsung solid state drives perform very well and they have a proven track record. Crucial, SanDisk, and Intel are also worth considering.

Yeah, you have a sweet desktop there, I plan to build a desktop about this time next year. Would you go with the Intel, $10 cheaper, and appears to be faster in write speed? Or pay extra, gain 50MBps read speed, but lose 200MBps write speed?

Thanks for the link Johnny, Samsung does seem to be one of the best in SSD world, but I just can't see paying the extra for them. Kinda like the whole Mac vs Windows deal. Maybe I'm wrong, but they just don't seem like it's worth the extra $50-$100.

All in all, I have nothing negative to say about the MX100. With the performance and feature set, combined with pricing that basically doubles the amount of storage you get for your dollar, it's an absolute no-brainer. Unless you are an enthusiast or professional with a heavy IO workload, the MX100 is currently the drive with the best bang for the buck in the market by far.

I'm still not sold on the crucial. I know it has excellent reviews, but from what I'm seeing, so does the Intel. The intel read speed is 500MBps with the write speed at 450MBps. Whereas the Crucial read speed is 550MBps and write speed of 300MBps. Now, I know the 4KB Random Read and write on the Crucial are higher at 85,000 IOPS and 70,000 IOPS respectively, Whereas the Intel's read is 42,000 IOPS and write is 52,000 IOPS. This is my first SSD, So I still don't know a lot about them. Does the random 4k Read and Write mean more than the write and read speeds?

Most definitely! Most file accesses on a PC are of the "Random" nature. Only very large files, like movies, are likely to be sequential.

I also recommend the Crucial MX 100.

If I'm not mistaken, My Sata port is only running at 3.0Gb/s, here is a screenshot from HdTune Pro. If that's the case, it doesn't really matter which one I go with, as the speed will be capped at like 375Mb/s correct? ]http://[/url]
