Okay so this may be long, but I've been at it for days and can't figure out the problem.

So I bought my cousins old (2 years old) PC from him to replace my much older one. It came with a new 500W PSU and just onboard video (Micro ATX Motherboard). Got it hooked up with my old GPU, and got an error before the login screen about a hardware issue. Swapped out my cousins HDD for my HDD and it booted up fine. Reinstalled windows, the drivers, basic programs, etc.. Hooked back up the other HDD and my PC could see it so I figured I'd just keep it there for movies, etc.. Then I played a game of LOL and went to bed. Next morning the screen is showing that same error from before. Might have Blue Screened in the middle of the night or maybe windows installed an update, I don't know. So I took out that HDD, same error, tried just the other HDD, same error.
Continued fiddling around and eventually stopped getting video (tried both the GPU and onboard video), and eventually the PC wouldn't even power on. In some instances, with just the 24pin power connector, I would get lights and fans, but after plugging in the 4pin CPU cable... nothing at all. Tried using my 900W PSU, same story.
So then I buy a new motherboard. It powers on but no video. Try different PSUs and HDDs, different RAM slots, single RAM sticks... nothing. Eventually I get fed up and return both PCs (mine and my cousins) to their original states. His still doesn't power. And now, for some reason, mine isn't showing video (it was working previously).
So then I buy a new GPU. Plug it into my old PC, no video. Try it with the new motherboard and same story.

So here I am, with 3 Motherboards (one new), 2 GPUs (one new), 2 CPUs, 2 PSUs, 2 HDDs, 2 monitors... and no combination is giving me video. Tried different DVI cables and an HDMI cable, as well as different wall plug-ins.

Anyone got any ideas? Am I missing something obvious?

Any help would be much appreciated as my brain is exhausted from doing this every night this week.

Thanks

I've tried both. A new 500W and an older 900W. On both motherboards with every combination of available hardware... which is two of each component.
