I recently acquired a new ssd to replace the failing hdd that came in this laptop. I have both the original manufacturer's recovery disk as well as an ISO for a fresh install.

Unfortunately, upon installing the new SSD and going through the install, the following error message pops up when I'm selecting the partition for install "failed to format the selected partition" with an error code of 0x80070057. In my research, some have suggested that either the bios of the motherboard are out of date, causing the error, but, from what I can tell, the bios update for this particular computer (Samsung np-qx411-w01us) requires an active installation of Windows (which I lack). others suggest that the AHCI drivers may be out of date, but I've seen no good solution for updating them other than relying on vista of all things.

suggestions?

also, if it makes a difference, the one dang USB on the machine is broken due to my SO forcing the socket when she shouldn't have. so, anything i use has to come from a bootable cd :/

Unfortunately, the one USB port on the laptop is pushed in and doesn't work. I do have two seperate install disks (manufacturer and an ISO that I downloaded) but I could try to find a third ISO to work with from another source and try that. I'm less than hopeful though.
