I have a dell inspiron 1521 with a dead gpu. I want to get my data off that hardrive and onto a new computer. Ive tried sata to usb cable however the computer doesnt recognize the WD1600bevs from the 1521 nor does it appear anywhere in the device manager. It does recognize newer hard drives though. Is there another way to get the data from my old hard drive or is there something I need to do when connecting via sata to usb?

Get an external dock, put the old hard drive in that and connect the dock to the new computer.
