Well 1.8 isn't horrible for the average pc. Windows will automatically eat more ram if it is available. Example: workstations at work are 64gb, no pagefile and run clean at about 3-4gb. Windows adapts pretty well to use memory to its benefit. That being said, wth is that svhost doing?! A crude way to tell is by right clicking on the svhost and selecting go to service. See what that goes to.

Something that I really should have said, which is why I keep looking at my physical memory usage, is that when I have chrome open with 5-10 tabs using no more than 1gb of ram and a video game (DayZ just recently) which also takes 1gb of ram I sit at 90% physical memory usage and I start dropping frames in games.

For example, My top processes were altogether using 3gb of ram and the rest of the processes were negligible, yet my physical memory was jumping between 85 and 95 percent and I was having awful fps.

Ok.. that's new.. when you are at those high usages, can you do a show processes from all users? See if that could shed some light? You could try process explorer from sysinternals. Or just for the hell of it run a sfc /scannow.
