r9 280x crossfire is good for next gen games

Solution
The the r9 280x's won't run full steam.

You need to get a good power supply, good motherboard (990fx chipset) and good cpu so that you can get use out of 2 x 280x's
1920 x 1080p is standard. So is 2560 x 1440p.

R9 280x is a good solution because there is 3gb vram and more processing power than a 290X which has 4gb vram. But it uses more power than a 290x. And costs more.

R9 290/x leaves an upgrade path (290/x xfire). But 3 way xfire is hard to get motherboard, lots of power and bad scaling.

Say What? 290x has more processing power. Easily. A PAIR of 280xs has more processing power than a 290x, the biggest problem I see here is that no one knows what's going to happen in the future, so it's impossible to say with any certainty what will be good for gaming 4 years from now.

The 280x does not have more processing power than the 290x...not by a long shot. In crossfire sure but alone, no way.
