Haswell Refresh: Asus Maximus VI Extreme or wait for Z97?

Hey everyone, Getting the Haswell Refressh i7-4790k chip by 4th of July to finish building my rig, and am wondering since I was currently looking to get the Asus Maximus VI Extreme board, but am unsure if I should wait for the Z97 board, and will that be weeks or months away probably, or stick with this z87 board...would I have to adjust bios?

thanks!!

if you stick with the z87 board, it will need a bios update, and if you plan on getting a broadwell chip in the future, you need a 9-series board.
  2. Already out! I suggest the Asus Z97-A if you're on a budget.
  3. umm, no, it comes out july 16th.
  4. ya because i see the refresh chip on amazon says:
    Compatible with z97 boards only
Not compatible with Z87 or Intel Motherboards
    Intel Rapid Storage Technology
    Processor with Unlocked Clock Multiplier

What comes out July 17th? And I am looking to get what the Asus Maximus VI Extreme gives me. 4-way SLI and comes with great sound and wifi additives that I would need to put money into later anyway. What other boards are there that are similar to this?
  5. Z97 and Z87 chipsets are backwards and forwards compatible with haswell and haswell refresh. Worst might be a bios change.
  6. we were talking about the maximus VII Hero
  7. ah, i was speaking of the extreme. the hero is already out no? Thought I saw i at frys...the VII. Am looking to see when the VII Extreme comes out which will be z97
  8. oh XD were all talking about diff boards... im not sure when the extreme comes out, if ever, i can only fing hero, genie, and ranger.

I posted the URL to Hero too

I don't see why he has to get the highest end MB when that money could be better spent.
  10. well, some people want and can afford a high end 3-4 way sli/cfx, want to OC a lot, and want/need a lot of features.
