Can anyone help, I am using the above wireless adapter and to my knowledge I have the latest drivers installed. The performance from day one has been very poor, signal strength is never above 60% ?

The only thing I have to compare is my ipad which is much faster and more reliable. This is a new build with very hi spec, so what can be done to remedy this ?

I don't mind getting another adapter if it's going to improve matters, but I don't really have any guarantee.

Would I be better off with a internal pci/pcie card or should I be getting good performance from what I already have ? I am using a Asus Z87K mobo

Any suggestions

I am assuming you are talking about a USB based wireless nic card ? What you list is a chipset number it goes in a number of wireless devices...mostly USB though.

In general all devices with the same chipset perform exactly the same. The ones people tend to have issues with are those very tiny ones so if that is what you have it could be that. Mostly it is the antenna are so small and so close to the case that a lot of the wireless signal is absorbed. Antennas tend to be the only difference between devices using the same radio chips. Bigger tends to always be better. External antenna are the best option.

The cheapest thing to try first is a USB extension cable to see if moving the nic away from the computer helps at all...

PCI based cards should perform about the same. Although the pci bus speed is faster than USB it makes no difference since both are faster than wireless runs so the wireless tends to be your bottle neck. The main advantage to PCI is they have more room for external antenna. Still the antenna are right next to the case so many times it does not make any difference. It is mostly a personal preference you will not see a huge difference.
