Hello everyone,

i'm just wondering which would be better for gaming as i can get each for around the same price,
but i am on a really tight budget and wish to do gaming with the eventual choice.

any help would be greatly appreciated

Solution

For me personally i would go for the 8300 if possible but its fine. The 2 extra cores will give it 20% or more in performance to spread out the workload with all the cores. I would go with 8 cores to be on the safe side since games now are starting to take...

At this moment i already have an FX6300 in my current pc but i plan to upgrade and was having difficulty choosing, the only reason i was going with the intel idea was because of their mini itx form factors so i can get a smaller case for portability, but in overall i wouldn't mind picking the best one to work with my current setup though i am only replacing motherboard, cpu and case so could you guys perhaps look at a few ideas i have and tell me about any improvements that could be made?

@above, if you plan to upgrade, get the i5 4690 or wait for broadwell/next amd cpu. There are SOME games that bottlenecked by fx 6300 (star citizen, dayz, etc) but majority of CURRENT games will run just fine with a fx 6300

@ OP, Get the 2600k, it will beat the crap out of the amd.

Upgrading from fx 6300 to 8320/8120 WONT make noticeable difference in GAMING

i kinda meant to futureproof myself or is there really no point in upgrading yet?

i could do with spending thee money on a new hard drive etc but the mobo is needed due to me having an msi 970a-g43

Please dont get the 8320 it sucks for gaming, swap the 760 with a r9 270, use the spare money to get an i5 or the 2600k. Trust me... You can google some reviews/benchmark about the poor single threaded fx series

i have already purchased a gtx 760 and it works perfectly well i was only going to get the 8320 because i am on a budget, hence why the only reason i'd have been able to get the i7 is because it is second hand and only £120

the above three are my only choices at this time, i can't afford a 2600k or the 4690k BOTH are out of my pricerange due to my small budget, like i say i already have the 6300 and wanted to know if it was worth upgrading to any of the above.

thanks dude, but would you see that as worth upgrading from an fx6300 or should i just stick with it, i'm mainly upgrading so i can keep up with the newer games coming out in the near future

Here you go http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/698?vs=287 i think its ok if you get the i7, its still a beast and futureproof

I would go with 8 cores to be on the safe side since games now are starting to take advantage of 8 cores since consoles are using it now. Once Mantle is completed it might be even better.

you can keep using the 6300 if you want to overclock instead but im sketchy with overclocking because i like my computer to last 8 years tops unless i was rich.

No such thing as Future Proof in the PC world since hardware gets outdated every year or two with lower power consumption and better performance.

That's just how business works they can have a 20GHZ processor already made right now but release it to the public as 3ghz then 4ghz 2 years down the road then 6 later on and so on.

I mean if you pay attention the every cell phone released or ipad iphone, video cards it gives you an idea what i mean. Still as of today im waiting for video cards to reach 2GHZ core clock but we are still at 900 mhz to 1ghz. I keep seeing 10-20mhz difference every year with heatsinks getting bigger or smaller or more or less power consumption.

But that's just me im very picky with my money

yes sir appreciate your explanation. But the games themselves are in stagnation in terms of horsepower needed to run them.

Are you talking about software now? or hardware? if so then i can say for sure devs do not know how to optimize games and have Nvidia or AMD to optimize games with driver updates. I remember playing tomb raider on launch on my gtx 650 ti, i was getting 28 fps. A year later im always at 60 fps with the latest drivers

I miss the 90s when you just buy a Creative or Voodoo card and play any game just fine. Good times indeed

I would get it for sure unless you have patience and wait for Black Friday deals in couple of months if you really wanna save money.
