I am attempting to mount a coolermaster hyper 212 evo onto a ga-970a-ds3p mobo. the standoff screws appear to be too large to go into the mobo holes provided. help!

I have installed 212 EVOs on several AMD boards. Gigabyte included. Never came across that before. Are you sure you aren't just being a bit timid. They should press right in the holes. If not, please post a pic of the situation if possible.

I pushed pretty hard with the round socket, using both a flat and a phillips screwdriver. I was afraid I'd crack the MOBO. I went ahead and installed the stock CPU cooler that come with the chip, just to see how everything would go. When I finished with everything, I have no power to the system at all. I'm about ready to unstall everything, and put the old MOBO back in and power that up. At least that way I can see if my PSU is still OK. Got a service request sent in to Gigabyte about the problem. Maybe the MOBO is no good?

Thanks SR-71 Blackbird.. That's just what I needed. I'll use that when/if I ever get my system up and running again. I took the new MOBO out, placed old MOBO in, hooked it up (I thought), and nothing happened. Thought it might have been the PSU, so tried the paper clip trick on it. It works. Finally think it's working, except my monitor does not work. There must be an electrical connector that I missed. I'll have to keep looking..

It's a mystery to me. I can't find any other places on the board that would take any of my remaining connectors. I don't think the monitor has anything except the power cable and the DVI port. I'm about ready to give up for now and hope someone out there has a better idea.

Good news! I finally woke up. Brought my 2nd monitor out and tried it. It would only attach to the correct port, and wala! Dumb. Just goes to say, "you can't cure stupid" Maybe I'll try to install the new MOBO tomorrow and see if I have better luck with that.
