I just built my first PC in years that will be my only home PC, for now, used for gaming media, surfing etc. I'm having trouble deciding on a storage drive combination for my needs. I had a small 2.5" 1TB USB 3.0 external before i started the build and during the build I've purcashed the following:

250GB Sammy EVO SSD
512GB Crucial MX100 SSD
2TB WD "Performance" Boxed HDD (i bought this at Bestbuy price matched to Microcenter for $99. Inside the box is the older version of the WD Black model ..FAEX. The newer blacks are the FZEX. Still thought it was a good deal since the newer FZEX 2TB's are about $145 at amazon or the Egg.)

My initial thought was to use the 250 SSD for boot, all programs and a few games i currently play and store everything else on the 512 SSD, including a partition for a clone of the 250 SSD boot drive. I have less than 50GB of used space on the boot SSD right now with NO games on it. I've been a bit overboard on the Steam summer sale and will have about 30 games to store, plus music and photos. No movies, yet. Then I would use the small external for backups. As a caveat, I could give a crap less about the power savings, so the WD greens do not interest me. I'm a "drill for oil in Alaska and while your there, log it kinda guy" (replant of course). Near silent (when not gaming) is more important to me than power consumption. Hence the fractal case below.

Then I was thinking as I buy more games, music and rip blu-rays, the 500GB SSD would eventually be too small for everything and frankly I do not trust a cheap 2.5" external for backing up everything.

I'm so OCD that I cannot figure out what to keep, what to sell and how to set up everything. I want a perfect clone of my boot drive somewhere, and I want backups of everything somewhere, either internal or external.

Keep one SSD and the HDD?
Keep both SSDs and return the unopened HDD?
Selling both SSD's and buy a 120 or 128 super fast SSD and keep the HDD?
Keep the 2.5" external? Sell it and buy a larger/larger capacity one?

Christ, how do i find my way to the bathroom to take a leak?

Getting a SSD as a Data drive I don't believe is a good choice.

I'd say just get rid of the 512GB SSD and that 2.5 1TB. Replace those with 2 2TB (or 1 4TB it's up to you) black or blue WD drives.

Or you could go extreme by getting 4 1TB blue or black WDs and setting them up as a RAID 10 LOL.

It's a bummer that your mobo doesn't have a m.2 SSD, since you could pop a m.2 ssd for a boot drive and get ridiculous boot times.
