Hi, I'm about to wrap up my first build, and I was hoping that I could install the OS (Windows 8) onto a HDD, then when I get the money buy an SSD and from then on keep my OS and most used programs on the SSD, while using the HDD for mundane storage. Would I have to buy a new license key/install disc to reinstall Windows 8 onto the SSD?

***EDIT***

Nevermind, this question has already been resolved in an existing thread, sorry I didn't see at first!

Big relief, I'm $150 over my budget and it seems the $145 250G SSD will be the first thing to go, but I'm happy that I can still get it later on!

Just make sure you buy a full version of windows 8. Not a version that comes pre-installed on a computer you buy already made like Dell.

Windows 8 is linked to the user and not the hardware so you can re-install it as much as you want. I did the same.

The only problem you "might" ancounter on your second install is that windows won't be able to activate your copy of windows8 automatically, (don't worry) you will have to do the phone activation which is an annoying 10 minutes on the phone with a machine.

So feel free to buy windows 8 install it on your HDD and than install it again on your SSD later. You shouldn't have any problems.
