So sometimes i have a 50mbps download and a 35mpbs upload. Then here and there i get stuck at 5mbps but upload stays at 35mbps. This is a desktop plugged directly into router. My wireless is ALWAYS consistent. It does not fluctuate like my desktop. I tried a different nic card and also going from Bluetooth mouse to corded mouse. All I know for sure is this began after updating to SP1. Very frustrating. I did the malware spyware check and updating drivers. everything short of wiping my drive and reinstalling.

My system is AMD10 7850K with 16gb Ram and an SSD hard drive.

Are you getting diffrent test results on speed tests on the net aswell or is it just while downloading from diffrent servers etc?

Whats wierd is that the ethernet is failing and not the wireless, usually its the other way around.
Since you´ve updated drivers and run malware i suggest that you try deactivating your antivirus for a while to see if that can be the bandit in this story.

Also it would be good to try another router or switch the ethernet port in your current one. If the router change doesnt help the problem should lie in the computer since the wireless seems stable. Then you know what to fail search.

Uninstall the service pack, see if it works without it and then download SP1 seperatly and not through windows updates and try that.

hi there iv had similar problems but there is a way to find out what's going on ok here is a todo list.
1. plug your pc in to your modem and cut out the middleman (the router)
2. check your net speed.
3. If your speed is still down try another net cable then check your net speed (this will check your net cable)
4. start windows in safe mode (press F8 on booting your comp) and load windows (WITH network ON) and check once more (This will tell you if there is a program messing up your net)
depending on what you find you may need to look at other things like electrical interference from plugs.
It does pay to have a good shielded cable for long runs and high speed

Good luck let me know how its goes
