Intel i3-2310m - Can it be put to use??

Hi all,
I've just had a laptop mobo and screen fail, but the CPU is still OK. What's the potential of using the CPU in a mini itx or similar build?

It's not a big possibility. Those CPUs aren't even sold individually boxed and some models may be soldered on the motherboard.

See the sockets in that link? FCBGA1023, PPGA988

the BGA part is Ball Grid Array that needs heat to mount on the mobo. the PGA is a Pin Grid Array that can be removed. I assume you have the latter?

That makes finding a suitable motherboard kind of hard and possibly more expensive than is warranted.

Realistically, you won't be able to make use of that processor in a desktop build. Besides finding a suitable motherboard, you also need to consider how a desktop power supply delivers power to low voltage laptop components.

There's a good chance that someone on eBay will take it off your hands. Plenty of people on these forums ask how to upgrade laptop CPUs.
