Hello, right now I have FX 6300 overclocked to 3.8ghz with after-market cooler (CM Hyper 212 Evo I think).

but I can't seems to figure out how to monitor the temperature of fx 6300. I am using CPUID HWmonitor (latest version) right now, but I don't think this is right.

The Fx 6300 package temperature at semi idle (just doing some internet and watching video) is about 16 - 20 degree Celsius, and I think it's below the ambient temperature.

I ran Prime95 for about 20 minute, the max temperature was about 43 degree Celsius.

is HWmonitor readings correct? I heard it's wrong, but I don't really know.

Thanks !

Dunno why but HWmonitor etc still don't ready FX series temps correctly, the only accurate program right now it's AMD's own Overdrive, which will report the threshold temp (how far your cores are from hitting ceiling).

Use CoreTemp instead, never had a problem with it.

@RaDiKaL_'s Okay, I'll give AMD overdrive a try

@TechyInAZ I tried the CoreTemp it gave the exact same temperature as HWmonitor.

I tried the AMD Overdrive, it does report the temperature until threshold. but it doesn't give the actual temperature of the CPU.
I don't know if this is true but I heard the the HWmonitor for FX series is accurate after 40 degree Celsius.

HWmonitor does have some issues but those temps seem just about right. Lowest that is common on high end coolers is typically 10C, while full load can be from 30-50 depending on airflow and the cooler.

For a 212 and such a mild OC it seems correct.

To confirm, subtract the number that Overdrive gives you from 62.

Okay, that's good to hear haha.
I did another Prime95 test with AMD overdrive and HWmonitor turned on.
The thermal margin in AMD overdrive was between 31-34 degree celsius and HWmonitor's CPU packet temperature was between 36 - 39 degree Celsius
I guess my temperature is normal right now..

Thank you guys for the replies

I guess Overdrive uses 70C as their thermal max then instead of the advertised 62C, that would make your temps match exactly.
