why dont my dvd burn disc play in my computer

This may sound odd, but: Will a store-bought DVD play in this computer?
Most PCs will not play DVDs until they have commercial software installed.
If that's not the issue, how did You burn the disc? Is it supposed to be a video DVD? What software did You use? Can You see a directory listing on the DVD?
