Hello, I am building a HTPC that will be for music sharing, network file sharing, Netflix & youtube, dv d watching, and light gaming. By light gaming, I would like 35+ FPS on 720p with medium settings on recent titles (like BF4). The system will be on 24/7 in my bedroom so it must be quiet! How can I get modest graphics on a budget in a quiet system?

My budget for the remaining parts is $400 (drives, peripherals, and OS already owned)

Component Selection Price
CPU Intel Pentium G3420 3.2GHz Dual-Core Processor $69.99
Motherboard MSI H81M-E33 Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard $44.99
Memory Crucial Ballistix Sport 4GB (1 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory $40.11
Storage Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive $0.00
Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive $0.00
Video Card Sapphire Radeon R7 250 2GB Video Card $81.98
Case Cougar MG100 MicroATX Mini Tower Case $29.99
Power Supply Corsair Builder 430W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply $42.30
Optical Drive Samsung SH-224DB/BEBE DVD/CD Writer $14.98
Operating System Microsoft Windows 7 Professional SP1 (OEM) (64-bit) $0.00

Total: $343.33

Solution
That psu is not good enough to run 24/7
I switched to a more efficient and much better video card
I put in a better motherboard too.

From a quick glance over that looks pretty good for the budget. The one thing I might recommend is looking into Mini ITX since you are trying to build a compact system. Mini ITX systems often come with built-in WiFi and take up less space. As well as that I would recommend looking into a better CPU cooler that will result in lower temperatures and less noise. A good starting point is the Cooler Master Hyper 212.

The GPU will run battlefield on medium at 1080p around 50FPS, so you should be good in that respect. But the CPU may bottleneck the GPU in some scenarios.

Thanks for the tips.

@ Jason Light. I have a mini-itx and I like the form factor, but they rarely have space for drives, and I want to use this for media sharing and need the storage space. Also ITX seems to be more pricey.

@ CTurbo, I use cooler master 212 evo all the time, its cheap and effective forgot to put it in the parts list.
