High CPU usage with Guild Wars 2

Hi,

I have been playing guild wars 2 for about 6 months now and as of late I am experiencing really high CPU usage of up to about 90%. I have the bios set to turbo mode but unfortunately I don't know what else to do. Is it just an overclocking issue or will i need to purchase a better processor and therefore motherboard etc? Thanks in advance.

Do you mean that in the 6 months you've been playing Guild Wars the CPU usage has increased? That's unlikely unless you've also picked up some malware that saps your CPU cycles.

Your CPU is about 8 years old. 8 silicon years translate to about 96 man-years. Time for a newer generation to take over the helm, don't you think?

Any recent Intel Core i3 or even the new Pentium G3258 (retailing at $75) will unfortunately NOT treat your venerable E6600 with respect as they leave it in the dust, performance-wise. :)

Haha, Ok understood. What about the graphics card etc though? Is the whole rig past its time?

Quite right...
Depending on your MB, maybe you can change your CPU to something like Q9550... That would give you a performance increase close enough to a G3258. Because what Karsten does not tell you: you will have to change your motherboard and RAM, and probably OS as well (I would change at any rate as it is Vista) if you want a more modern processor...
So tell us more about your MB and PSU...

Yup, graphics card also past its time (even more than processor actually...)

Afraid so yes, I suspect the integrated graphics on a new Intel Core i3 will perform better than that card. :(

Get a nice, low-end card to go with your shiny new, low-end CPU. :) You'll still be happy.

Work out how much you want to spend and the kind folks over here will be delighted to propose a new build. :)

Do you believe that the Intel Core2 Quad Processor Q9550 and the Intel Core2 Duo Processor E6600 are pin-compatible just because they both say "775" in the "sockets supported" field? You're sadly mistaken.

Holy smoke! is that $2,000 US? You could build a monstrous rig - one that could run your old CPU in a tiny corner without even knowing. it.

That is exactly what I did NOT say. I strongly suggest you read my post before commenting it. I asked him to post details about motherboard and PSU for exactly this reason. I myself upgraded my 775 platform to a QX9650, thank you.
