I have this motherboard I was wondering how many fans I can power from it I presume they would be connected via molex connectors?

Solution
Different mobos will control the speed differently, some, not at all. For an Asus mobo, you should be able to control fan speeds either in the BIOS or with Asus provided app.

PWM = Pulse Width Modulation, a method for controlling fan speed by pulsing the fan voltage off and on.

Your mobo has "3 Chassis Fan Connectors": https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/M5A99X_EVO_R20/specifications/

Each connector can support up to 2 fans, with splitters installed.

They will NOT be molex though. They are either 3 pin (voltage speed controlled) or 4 pin (PWM speed controlled) fan connectors.

hi thankyou for your input just to clarify the 3 pin is a voltage speed ocntroll does that mean you need a fan controller to use a 3 pin or can you just plug into the mobo and the fan will run at a constant rate. The 4 pin is speed controlled does that mean I alter speed somewhere??

So does the 3 or 4 pin need fan controllers. Just confused on what you mean by voltage / speed controller and PWM speed controller
