Hello guys,

Title says it all. I've been experiencing some high ping issues recently (specifically in League of Legends) where my ping has jumped from 75-90 to the high 100's and even 200's sometimes.
I live in Ontario, Canada and my cable internet is provided by Acanac. My PC is currently connected to my router (Netgear WNDR3400v3) and this is my speedtest result :)

Hope information given is enough!
Thanks in advance!

Btw, my pc is running a freshly installed windows 8.1 ;)

Solution
What you need to figure out first is where the problem is. It could be:

a) something on your local network
b) your ISP
c) the game servers themselves

There are a few different ways of doing that. Here's what I'd do.
- Open two command prompts (run "CMD")
- in the first command prompt, ping your router, type: ping -t 192.168.137.1 (where the number is IP address of your router
- in the second command prompt, ping a reliable internet site, type: ping -t www.google.com

Those pings (because of the -t switch) will just keep running, but the ping traffic is minute - it won't affect anything.

I'd then launch the game (maybe take on some bots in a custom game, so you won't get raged at for ALT-Tabbing). When you notice the lag spikes...

- If the time on your pings to your local router are increasing, then it's your local network that's the problem. Who else is using the internet? Are you on a crowded/poor reception WiFi?

- If the router pings are unaffected but the Google Ping time has increased, then your internet service is the problem. Contact your ISP. This is what was happened to me for a while and after diagnosing the problem and sending the ping results to my ISP, they actually acknowledged that their arterial link to my area was saturated and they let me out of my contract.

- If neither of the pings are affected, then your local network and internet service are fine. Must be the game servers. Good luck getting a resolution on that one!

edit: forgot to mention, if you want to stop the pings running, select the command prompt and hit CTRL + C.

Solution

Even easier then! Run the pings without the game running and you'll have your answer as to where the problem lies. If Google, Amazon, Ebay etc all have low-ish pings and LoL is giving you a high ping, it's almost certainly the LoL servers that are the problem.

So according to those pings, your local network is absolutely fine, and your pings to the internet are fine too (between 10 and 30ms).
Neither changing your ISP or settings on your local network/computers are likely to make any difference.
It's almost certainly the LoL servers, in which case there's very little you can do. I have no explanation for why your friend across the street seems to be fine. Is he on a different ISP?
It might be worth logging a support request from the ISP just in case they have any explanation. You could try asking RIOT.
Do you have other online games? What are their pings like?

For other games I play (ie. cs 1.6) my ping is below 10.. My friend's service provider is Rogers (yes it is different but it owns Acanac, which is mine).
I will definitely be logging a report to them asap.
Thanks a lot for your continuous help!
Regards.
