Monitor going to sleep on start up... Graphics card problem?

So I was on my desktop PC yesterday editing videos, but today when I start it up, the monitor shows "Monitor going to sleep" and doesn't show the computer screen.

It's clearly a problem with the PC because when connecting the monitor to my laptop it works perfectly.

I do have a pretty crappy PSU at the moment which I need to replace.

But how do I go about fixing this? I obviously can't get onto the computer to mess around with graphics card settings if that is the problem...

EDIT: I took the monitor cable from the socket connecting to my graphics card and connected it to the internal card instead, and now the screen is showing up. So it was an issue with my external card.

It may simply be a badly seated card so try removing it then pushing it firmly back in to it's slot.

Take the usual safety precautions when doing that.
