I recently formatted my Acer 5542G laptop, and changed its OS from Windows 7 x64 Professional to Ultimate. I did this because my laptop started running super slow when it booted and after. I installed the Ultimate and I had no problems so far. Windows did the updates as usual, but when it started installing Service Pack 1, that's where I started having some problems with it. It downloads the SP1, and when I restart the PC, it starts to configure the update, this will start working normal and it freezes somewhere at 15% for 5 minutes then it continues, and suddenly while configurating the PC stops, and it reboots. It shows the Acer booting screen, then it asks me If I want a system repair, or a Normal Start-up, when I choose the second option, it starts the Windows 7 booting animation, as soon as the 4 lights appear and get a little bit together, the computer freezes, it quickly shows me Blue Screen of Death(Which I can't read because I have automatically reboot machine after start-up failure, If it helps I can check for it) and it restarts the computer. I have fixed it by restoring. I did this installation like 5 times not and it has failed every single time. I even tried downloading and installing SP1 manually but it still fails. Can I do something about it or just switch back to Windows 7 Professional?

Thank you for reading, if you are able to help me, I would be very thankful. Have a good day

As with cars, computers, refrigerators or anything else, because it worked on any specific date, that does not mean that no problems have manifested themselves since. I usually do dual OS installs..... 1st on HD (backup in case SSD goes south) and then on SSD. On one build, the HD install went fine and 3 tries at the SSD failed..... tested memory and it was producing an error so data was being corrupted when coming off DVD, stored in memory and then failed transfer to SSD.

Does Memtest fix problems, or just report a log file that could lead to a solution?

Memtest86+ determines whether the RAM is good or bad..... only fix is to RAM and get...

I think I got it when I purchased the laptop.

I thought you said it had Win 7 Pro on it.
Which do you have and where did you get them?

Memtest86+ determines whether the RAM is good or bad..... only fix is to RAM and get replacement pair.

And Ill echo the Captain above..... Windows Ultimate will not fix anything .... for the extra $50 or so, you get BitLocker and Language Packs
