You want to bring down the price then you need to forget about overclocking.

By going for a Xeon 1231 and Asus H97 Plus along with cruicial memory of same power and capacity, your current rig will run every game at max settings for years to come, and with hyperthreading its much more future proof.

I think also that powercolor generic gfx card will also be cheaper, although I believe that the R9 290 already falls into the "diminishing returns" grade amongst graphics power, its only 15% faster than R9 280X but it is 30% more expensive.

You will also not need a new CPU cooler as the stock will do. By the way, where is your power supply?

P.S.: Who still uses optical drives? are you nostalgic a lot or something? Do you even know that you can install windows from your USB stick or any other portable source?

hey iceclock, the 1231 is based on the 4790's thermal profile, he will not be needing an aftermarket cooler if he goes for that one. Use asus H97 plus like I said, cheapest new gen chipset that is fully featured with tech. If his CPU by some reason won't "cut it", then he can always buy skylake when it comes out. And I also think you can't get the R9 290 for such a budget, simply too much would be sacrificed for it. My was bought with a 1300$ budget in mind and I could barely fit R9 280X.

And, Derrick, what you're buying with windows is really a product key that you need to register, having the actual windows on the physical disk is just a courtesy.

icelock is trying to push you old components, I do not believe you would want that...
