When I plug in my monitors to my graphics card (R9 280x) using adapters(because they are both VGA), I get no display. I plugged in my TV, which is HDMI, and it works. I also tried using a VGA to HDMI with the monitors and that also doesn't work. Does anyone know what the problem is?

Speaking as a guy that sent back a GPU because of this (Didn't know at the time), it's most likely the adapters themselves.

Honestly for such a powerful card it's probably high-time you upgraded your monitor setup. Analog signal is iffy at best.
Because VGA is an analog signal and DVI digital, the quality of your display, if any display at all, depends greatly on the adapter and/or cable quality.
Those little cheap-ish white ones are bonefied useless. The chunkier black and gold ones are where it's at.

I'm sorry I can't help you further, it's been many years since I used the adapter setup. One final word of note though, check out what particular DVI ports are on the back of your brand of 280x. There are DVI ports that are...

The card is an XFX Double D R9 280X 1000MHz BOOST Ready 3GB DDR5: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00FSC5N66/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

The adapters I'm using work with the current graphics card that I have, so I don't really see what the problem is.
Also, I spent less on the graphics card then I would have to spend on that adapter...

There are DVI ports that are strictly digital (Known as DVI-D) and DVI ports that have 4 extra pin holes (Known as DVI-I). If yours happen to be DVI-D then you're pretty much boned with an analog setup.

This is most likely the case since most GPUs have ditched support for DVI-I nowadays. At a pinch, the second DVI port could be DVI-I. It's easy to visually see the difference between the two, simply Google Image search the two types and one of the first images should be a detailed explanation.

sorry I understood that your card has two VGA and you are trying to convert to DVI.

your video card has a DVI-I that via a DVI to VGA adapter should be able to connect to your VGA monitor.

your video card has also a DP port which using a DP to VGA adapter will also connect to a VGA monitor.

Yeah I'm going to get some new monitors. It's time that I upgraded, as the ones I have right now aren't the best. Do you have any recommendations? I was thinking these: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009V8F700/ref=ox_sc_act_title_5?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER
