Windows 8 sucks, I feel your pain.

XP is not supported anymore so it wouldn't be the smartest move to do that.

What I would do first is to check if you can find most drivers for your hardware compatible with XP. My guess is that it would be doable, but with some work.

Another option would be windows 7. You might have more luck with that one.

Also, if you are a little bit "computer savy" you can partition your drive and install XP on that second partition. That way you can make some tests on that second partition and keep your windows8 partition intact.

Hope that helps

oh and btw, there is a 64bit version of xp i believe.

There was a 64-bit version of XP. It sucked. Driver and software support was horrendous.

i cannot run some games on my laptop which runs under windows 8.1 64bit. now the problem is that the setup of the games says incompatible 16 bit application... so can i not change my windows to XP 32bit, to play those games?

I am not sure you can install a 32 bit windows on a 64 bit computer. You might want to check on that.

My suggestion here would be to install XP on virtual box or something like that.

Also, the application you are trying to run, try opening it with the vista compatibility.

Right click on your .exe file and select properties, after that click on the Compatibility tab and try playing with some options there. Unfortunately the lower youc an go is Vista, but it might worth trying.

A 32-bit OS will run in the system(32-bit win 7 for example). he problem is drivers, most manufactures quit making XP drivers awhile ago. 16-bit programs will not run in a 64-bit os without being run in a virtualized environment(vmware, virtualbox) compatibility mode will not work.
